Review Blog Post 4. How did the group you observed meet your expectations? Which expectations were challenged or changed?

I learn than vegetarians are really nice people that see life on a defferent prespective and people might judge them, but when you actually talk to people that belong to the vegetarian culture they are really nice and have an interesting way of think. In the past couple of week I been trying to be a vegetarian myself, it has been really challenging because everyone aroud me eat mead and I have been cooking meat for my husband. I starded on Novenver first and, I haven’t had any meat at all. I still have to learn more vegetarian recipes because I’m runing out off thing to eat. This experience has been interesting because I hear comments from two groups the vegetarias support me while the meateaters tell me to cheat and just eat meat I think is really funny, But i decide to do it until Novenber 25th so im going to do it all the way. Before this assigment i used to thinkl that there werent so many vegetarians but I had realize that there is lots of people that follow one of the different types of diets that are consider vegetarian diets. i think the most popular is the one were you eat fish I guess because your body ask for proteins so fish is a good source of proteins.

I ‘m really happy I got to learn more about this culture.

Frist of all in other to be a vegetarian like the work tell us you have to be someone who eat lot of vegetables, fruits, nut and grains. In other words you have to avoid all types of meat, well except fish because one of the vegetarians diets allows you to eat fish. Other signifiers of vegetarians are that they care about the enviroment, I guess thats probably one of the reasons why people become vegetarians in the first place to do something positive for the enviroment. So whenever I think about a vegetarian, I think of a nice, caring person that tries to do the best they can to protect the planet and the living creatures that live in it. For example, a friend of my is a vegetarian and she has two beautiful dog, and she take care of the dogs as they were her kids or something. Also when we when to the Puyallup Fair we so this baby pigs and she told her husband ”how can you eat bacon look at this baby pigs they are so cute?”. Also most vegetarians are part of the recycling community and try to live a “green” life. They also tent to be fit because they eat a lot healthier than a regular person and they work out to keep a healthy body and mind, therefore most vegetarians have a healthy and longer life.

Lonely boy knock the door, and as soon as they open the door he had to check the room to make sure everything was ok because he was alone and unarmed. After checking the room Lonely boy took a look at the street trough the window and just tought about his experiment hoping everything he has been doing works out the way he expected to work out, so he can do everything people are expecting him to do, like being successful for his parents and for his son soon to be born. He went there to see if anyone else new who kill the cop, he want to make sure that he was the only one how knew who did it. They start a random conversation asking him how is his girlfriend doing, he told them that she is find, they had spent 2 years together and they had gone trough so much stuff together like jail and he revel that she is pregnant, she is 3 month in. Lonely boy finally ask them if he had told them that he knows who kill the cop, and Durructti freak out he is like no, you haven’t , who kill him? he asked, but lonely boy knows that he can tell he who kill the cop he has to find out byhimseft because Lonely boy has to protect himsefl and his family, he can go to jail again. Everyone has to wacth his own back.

The group I’m writing about is vegetarians so I dont think they have special language that signify membership in their culture. But today I got lucky, while I was working at subway, this costumer came in and go the usual a veggie patty with all the vegetable except banana peppers, and jalapeno with some mustard on it. He is staying in the hotel close by subway, so he comes almost everyday to get the same sandwich. Today when he came in, I decided to ask him if he was a vegetarian, so he told me that he is. After that I just started to ask some of the question I brainstorm on class couple days ago. He told me that he became a vegetarian long time ago when he met a girl that after dating for a while she became his wife, so he adapt the vegetarian diet that she had, the funny thing he said is that the marrige didn’t last that long, but the diet did, he is still a vegetarian. He also told me that one time he try to eat a steak and his brain couldn’t prosses the texture of the meat, well that’s how I undestood, he was trying to explain to me that it wasn’t the flavor that bother him, it was the texture that made him stop eating, he couldn’t take it. After hearing the short story im even more interesting of learning more and more about this culture.

I’m a meateater, I think that there is not one single day that I dont have any type of meat on my meals. I love the teaste of a juice steak, or baked chiken, or one of my favorites tuna with rice and mayo, so on the next few weeks I want to learn about the vegetarian culture. I want to go to vegetarian restaurants, search for recipies and talk to peoplet that belong to this culture and try to learn from them in order to see if I can be a vegetarian for a week or so, who know maybe I end up becoming a vegetarian. I also want to see the benefits of being a vegetarian and what makes people decide to become vegetarians.

I think about this culture as being really determinate because in our society we are sorrowed by comercials and advertising about fast food and most of the time they include some type of meat on it. So, people that choose not to follow that and have a different live style that most of us, show that they now what they want and they will find a way to do what they believe is the right ting to do. Maybe if you where born in a family with both parents vegetarians it will be easier to be one than being born in a family where both parents eat meat and for some reason you want to become a vegetarian I think it will be more of a challege to do it.

The article talks about a research that was publised in the July British Journal of Cancer where it shows that people that eat meat are more likely to get all types of cancer. They studied 61,566 men and women , they divided in 3 goups the meateaters, vegetarians that eat just fish and vegetarins that don’t eat meat at all. This study was done for 12 years and they said that more reaserches need to be done it still reacoment for people to have a balance diet with higt levels of fiber, fruits and vegtables and they advise you to avoid red and processed meat. What really surprised me about this article is the percents of people that got cancer are really high for people that eat meat and i already have a great chance to get breast cancer because my ant died with breast cancer. Now i really want to know more about vegetarian and the life stile they have, the article open my eyes to this way of living i want to investigate more about the food they eat and what they use to replace meat.

This article pretty much tell you what catholics belive in, it is the same teachings that church teachs to people at mass. I dont see any differents from my expirience in the catholic church to the one the page is deicribing. The main thing is to love your neigbor as you love yourseft because if you do that the rest of the teachings are included already, you wont to nothing to hurt the other person because you dont do bad thing to people you love.

Pick a group you participate in or belong to. It might be an extracurricular activity, community group, etc. What signifiers does this group use to create its culture?

The only group I can think of right now that I belong to is the catholic community. This group is pretty simple or really complicated if you want to be one of those people that want to analyze everything that the catholic church believes in and everything they do and stuff like that, but for me it’s pretty simple is just a group that get together on sunday to give thanks for everything we have and to pray for a better future for the people we love and ourself. The mass is celebrate the same way every sunday except where is a special occasion like baptisms, weddings, funerals, palm sunday and others, where they will add certain things and omit others. I see the church like a place where you can go to relax and think about everything that is bothering you so you can try to get an answer for those problems. The people that belong to this group usually carries a rosary with them or they have one at home, in the car or somewhere else, the thing is that they always own one, they also have pictures of Jesus, Mary or some saint around the house somewhere, you can see this a lot in Ecuador, where I come from, because most of the people over there are catholics, so if you go to there house I bet you can find at least one of the things a mention before at their home. Other characteristic of this group is that they have class for kids, young adults, married couples and others to help people become better everyday. So as you can see the catholic community is just a group that you can join where they will help you become a better person.

The group that they belong to is the chatolic church, in this group usually people carry a rossary or have it somwhere around the house and they also go to church ones a week on sunday. Some sunday they have special celebrations like Palm Sunday like you can see in the picture they have branches they take this to church and have them bless.

How is the culture of your generation different from that of your parents?

I think my culture is different in many way from my parent’s culture. You can see it in the smallest thing like the type of music I listen to and the type of music they listen to, they like vallenatos and cumbia, I like something totally different like hip hop, reggae, rap and many more. Another difference is the way they were raised, specially my dad his family raised him to be ”The man” what I mean with that is that he wont do anything around the house except from the “manly” thing like fix the car and cut the grass or fix thing here and there that’s pretty much all he does around the house, that’s a big difference between my parents and I because my husband and I do everything together like if he is cooking I’ll be cleaning the dishes and if he is vacuuming I’ll be dusting, you know things like that. Other difference I can think of is the use of technology for my mom the cellphone is just for calling, for me is more than just calling,is for texting, checking my e-mail, finding my way with the navigator and much more. My parents and I are a lot diferent probably becuase the society keeps on changing and the younger generations get used to the new technology and the new things this one comes with, but my parents are the ones who infuence me to be the person I’m today and without them I wouldn’t be where I am today.
